The pole adorned with layers of peeling fliers caught me. So many people clearly put their flier on top of someone else's like it was more important. That's telling.
The trust people will put in a sheet of paper to deliver an important message in their absence (while it weathers the elements) is kind of inspiring. Though the refuse it ultimately creates is less so.
Thank you for shari g these images! I love how the way paper signs wrapped around posts tell the story of a neighborhood--its needs, its desires, its disagreements. I also live those old, custom lighted signs perched above restaurants and shops, which are such a central part of the historical urban landscape of America.
I am sitting in a creperie in Paris, looking out the window at signs for “shampooing-coupe” signs for the lotto, signs for bubble tea...and of course the lovely street sign telling me where I am

Would you expect anything less from a country that worships freedom above all?
"nightmares, and even death" is just too good. Especially because there's a world to imagine of what led to such declarations
I'm a big fan of the ghost signs I see everywhere here in France. There's a fantastic 'Dubonnet' sign on the approach to our nearest village.
I can't (can) believe how many signs you encountered in Chicago
Leonard Cohen wrote "a kite is a victim you are sure of." Why are signs so interesting? Because they can't answer back?
Floyd's
Enjoyed all but the most the Open sign..

Floyd’s
« Open, window service… » with two hands above it and the metal gate closed behind it.
I love your post and I can’t wait to follow along on your journey.
Chicago! 😍😍😍
I found the Chicago Silk Screen sign imaginative.
