There has been an undeniable return to film in both the professional and amateur realms of photography. Although it is expensive and unsustainable, I would never dream of denying the value of the art form that is film photography, film developing, and dark room printing. This past year I have dabbled in alternative print processes, took a dark room workshop, and have been obsessively ruminating on ways to get my digital images off my hard drives and onto tangible surfaces. Film photography IS the origin of photography. We started with light sensitive particles and have moved to light sensitive pixels. The hand held black box we hold up to our eye has changed, no doubt, but the fundamental principles of photography have remained very much the same. It is these fundamentals that, for me, allow digital photography to be as equally valuable an art form as film.
