Maybe - and I am no good at interpreting art - there is something of the anticipation before a ‘reveal’ … the shroud, the building closed for work, the lamps (my favourite!) and the moon waiting to light our way, the jester hinting at something hidden inside …
I have been browsing your Substack over the past weeks, and I just wanted to say how much I enjoy it. Both the photos and the writing. I'll look forward to following your work.
Funny there were sooo many French people in NYC this weekend, I mean there are a lot to begin with but I felt like I was in Europe. I kept thinking “it must be holiday”.
The thread is interesting because I don't think it shows up in the short term, more so in the long term. I've been going through years of my work recently and I see the threads and I'm even able to separate them in to groups. Things we naturally are drawn to like the lamp for you and the way the world moves us by the way we choose to capture it over and over again. Things we unconsciously love or beg to ask again and again.
For me the thread is that curious, inquisitive soul peering out of those pupils and dissecting vast scenes into smaller frames that make it pause for a closer and longer look. Those frames become meaningful at that moment of pause and contemplation and when the decision is made to captured to share with us. We don't get the benefit of the other four senses that were stimulated at these moments but Damn, the sight is amazing and the experience is much appreciated. Thank you for sharing them. The chair made me pause and smile.
Interesting quote, however, in my opinion in your photography (and mine), the essence of so many of your images inspires a question, who was sitting on that green park chair? Did a love affair break up and “she” carried away her chair, Will there ever be two chairs again.
Photography does this really well, what happened before and after the shutter.
I also think with great still Iife images they provoke a question about what IS happening, whose hands caused those stains on a tool? who just stood up from that kitchen table…..
Just my thoughts, of course, inspired by your work….❤️
I think the thread is an incredible eye and talent for capturing “that” feeling. The lamppost is fantastic.
Thank you Julie!

Anyhoo, what do I know.
Ohhh la la I love them all - like having my tea leaves read

Thank you Brigitte! Working on a new post for this week and some exciting new photo books coming out in the spring!
Loved this! Really beautiful! Subbed and followed! I’d say enjoy Paris but I’m sure you are though lol
Thank you! And yes, everyday!

Beautifully put. ✨
In winter the theme is always winter. Lovely sad shots
