Lately something has been holding me back from creating new photo series. Walking around the perfect early autumn streets of Paris doesn’t even have me shutter-happy, it is as if I have blinders on, my subconscious begging me not to accumulate anymore images. The thousands of frames-in-waiting are eager for their moment in the sun, and they’ve been waiting a while now.
In my revisiting, re-editing, and re-shaping what these last months of the year are going to look like for the work I came across this strange series of self portraits that I really love so much, but don’t think I’ve ever shared here on Substack. These images were made in January of this year, during a phase of heavy listening to one of my favorite podcasts: “Great Women Artists”, by
. I was painting and sketching and collaging a lot at the time and feeling deeply inspired by the great women painters and sculptors of art history. I remember yearning to create photographs with a multi-media essence, and these images were the result from attempt number one.The title I gave to the series at the time: “Subliminal Sex”, came from this concept of the unconscious feminine; the invisible yet constant force of Woman that moves through myself, through my work, and through my own history and the history of art. The colossal affect one’s sex (given and/or chosen) has on the way one moves through the world and therefore the way one creates art, struck me as something worth exploring through my own lens, and ultimately moved me to make these images.

PSYCHOLOGY
(of a stimulus or mental process) below the threshold of sensation or consciousness; perceived by or affecting someone's mind without their being aware of it.
Also, I have received several new paid subscribers this month and I would like to say THANK YOU! Truly, each subscription makes a difference and helps me sustain this artist lifestyle which is thrilling but also extremely unpredictable financially so, thank you — the rest of the images here are just for y’all and I would love to hear your thoughts.
xx
