I started writing Baby Blue in December 2021. It was a place on the internet I deemed worthy of sharing my work, a place where people might take a moment to actually see the work, maybe even read about it.
You’ve been a beautiful audience—always encouraging, always generous.
I guess little by little, Baby Blue has helped me build up enough courage to finally bring it to the “real world”—the one you can touch.
This Friday, May 3rd, my first solo photo expo opens. It is modest, and I am proud of it.
The first time I ever wrote the phrase, “baby blue” was in a phone note to myself. I searched “baby blue” in my notes yesterday to find it, almost four years to the day that I originally wrote it.
APRIL 28th, 2020:
Surrender baby blue,
don’t let them forget you.
Be sure to remember you, too.
I can’t fully remember what I was feeling when I wrote it—like a dream, I can recall the general essence but not specifically where I was or who I had just interacted with or what sparked the thought, but the sentiment (I think) remains the same; the recognition of baby blue, that internal creative voice, that subdued piece of ourselves we hesitate to nurture either out of doubt and insecurity, or fear of what a big, bad, blue monster it could become if we let it grow. The desire to surrender and let it grow, to make it known, to not be forgotten, but to remember to bring yourself along for the ride, to not get lost in the blue, to move through life hand-in-hand with it, to become co-creators.
Here are the photos in my camera roll from that day in 2020 when I first surrendered:
It’s like doing some reverse engineering, some auto-investigation of a past-self, who, upon reviewing the evidence and decoding all the clues they left for you along the way, resembles the present-self much more than you suspected they would.
If you are not in Paris from May 3rd - 8th, prints from the collection will be available to purchase, I will share the link once the expo is wrapped, along with photos from the show.
Bisous.
Wonderful! Have a great show.
Can't wait to see it!
